Crepeville is famous for their crepes and the sheer number of students that bring their parents here when they come to visit. It provides a good place for groups to eat because individuals order and pay separately at the counter. The food, however, is delivered to your table by a server. The average crepe costs about $7, including browned potatoes. They also have omelets, bagels, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, soup & salads, and cafe-type drinks. A lot of people study here due to the fact they have free wireless Internet and a wide selection of caffeinated beverages. However, their management is increasingly frustrated with studiers, so please be sensitive to how you use their space so that they don't decide to take away the free wifi.
You can pay with cash only. They do not accept credit or debit cards. There is an ATM inside the restaurant that you can use to get cash.
Currently the Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD) meets here on the first Tuesday evening of the month.
Crepeville was featured in MTV's first season of Sorority Life. One of the pledges featured on the show worked at Crepeville.
The building housing Crepeville was previously home to the short-lived Central Park Grocery, a hybrid deli-coffee house-wine bar concept created by Bob Dunning's wife, Shelley. Her creative vision for the site is still evident in the large, unique tiles that line the cafe's upper walls.

2007-01-02 11:55:27 I recently visited this establishment for brunch w/ friends when our usual brunch place was closed. As a strict vegetarian (i.e. vegan), I have struggled with living and dining in Davis. My experience at Crepeville supports my claim that it is HARD for vegans to eat out in Davis, CA. When I read over the menu I was happy to see that they offered a tofu scramble! It sounded great and I was impressed/relieved that a place like Crepeville would serve this type of "progressive" fare. Of course, in true Davis style, the tofu scramble also contained eggs! WTF? So, vegans, please be advised: if you ever order the tofu scramble, please be sure to request that the eggs are removed, so that it only contains tofu and veggies. I am still chuckling over the incident. I will NOT be returning to this place anytime soon. The Delta is more my cup of tea, I suppose... —AlvinoGina
I think "scramble" universally means eggs and even non-vegans eat tofu. —JimEvans
2007-01-02 15:42:17 Does JeffSpeckles get a cut out of Crepeville revenue? His job here apparently is to make fun of other posters when they don't like Crepeville. Personally, I think all the ingredients in the Crepes at Crepeville taste like they were previously frozen. I am now prepared for JeffSpeckles to log on and flame me. —AmyGoogenspa
You haven't been paying close attention. I guess you didn't notice the part where people called the owner a racist, a sexist, a bastard, and accused him of tax evasion. But hey, that's cool, because he's not here to defend himself. Apparently it's okay to attack anybody you like on the davis wiki, unless of course they are a wiki-an. —JeffSpeckles
2007-01-17 07:46:56 I'm still not completely sold on the crepes, but everything else on their menu is golden to me. They are one of the best places to study (especially early in the morning). I just had to post something (as I'm sitting here) as customer service is great as without a negative or frustrated look the really nice girl working the register took my order that incuded, subbed spinach for cheese, subbed bananas for toast, subbed soy for milk, and an omelette with just one egg yolk. I will definitely continue to frequent Crepeville (and who knows, maybe one day I'll grow to like the crepes). —AlvinTsao
2007-01-17 12:15:47 There have been a lot of complaints about poor management and being asked to vacate a table, but they are mainly concerned with table-turnovers during peak lunch and dinner hours (as I was informed by the manager). If you go to study in between peak hours, you're less likely to be asked to leave or purchase additional food. I definitely understand both sides as I have both been an errant studier and a just-here-for-the-food customer unable to find a seat. —AmelieDoisneau
2007-01-23 22:13:27 I love coming here in the morning for OJ and breakfast. There is nothing better than spending a fall/spring/summer morning on their patio with the newspaper, eating breakfast, and watching downtown wake up. One of the things I've really come to love about Davis during my time here. I'll miss it when I move on next year. —RussellAnderson
2007-02-21 11:36:38 I like Crepeville. A lot. Service is hectic, but so is the place during peak hours. They make a terrific burger. Great value overall: you get tons of food for what you pay. Coffee cups are too small though! —BriannaBetancourt
2007-03-30 15:58:43 I love this place. The food is really excellent. My favorite is the California crepe and the salads, and they always give you a huge batch of potatoes if you order the 1/2 sandwich. The servers are always friendly, too. —GreenThing
2007-05-02 20:30:02 Calling this "French" seems a bit of a stretch. Other than the crepe, it's hardly French... anyway, I love the "make your own crepe" option here. I start with the basic crepe (cheddar and onion, I believe) and then add: eggplant, spinach, tomato sauce, mushrooms, and artichokes. (I'd love it if this were a regular menu item so I didn't have to ask for all those items!). All dishes seem to come with home-fried potatoes, something that I generally like, but these I'm not crazy about. You can substitute a salad, but you have to pay extra. They do, however, give you a full salad, so it's not totally out of line. I like the fuji salad with the slices of fuji apples and walnuts in it. If you have the crepe I described, plus the salad — boy, you've really consumed a lot of veggies for the day! It's a lot of food, period, so it's nice that take-home boxes are conveniently located by the counter. Once I tried the eggplant sandwich, with pesto on it (memory may be hazy here). It was greasy, but good. —CovertProfessor
2007-05-22 10:24:01 We went to Crepeville for the first time last weekend - we had an overall positive experience. Food was pretty good, not great. We had the chicken curry crepe and the strawberry nutella crepe - definitely liked the nutella crepe. I don't think any of the comments on the segregated work environment are valid, based on what we saw. —sads
2007-06-04 00:18:51 I went there for the first time in a long time on a Sunday evening and was really worried about eating there because I read all these negative comments from HERE. Turns out I had nothing to worry about! Clean place, nice decor and open environment, with outdoor and indoor seating, food turned out GREAT (gotta love the house potatoes!), with big, filling portions. I had the California crepe, which was very good. My friend had the Cannelloni which was also very good, but very rich (cream cheese, cottage cheese AND cheddar). Overall, a great dinner experience. Maybe I don't eat eat here enough to get my one bad experience, but this place seems to be very popular and well-liked. I would come back again. —noahsark
2007-07-16 13:41:46 Yummy crepes! Now I don't need to make them haha. Chicken curry crepe was good. Good portions but too bad they accept cash only 0_o Nice atmosphere too. —BrandonToo
2007-07-19 18:37:48 Not to bad ok prices and potato's are a good deal if broke seems to be a good place to meat a lover —dickjones
2007-07-22 18:29:00 Sadly, I like their sandwiches better than their crepes. Great potatoes. —AlexandraDeGrange
2007-08-03 14:38:02 good food it is what it is, i will be there again i like the prices and portions and employees seem nice enough —Brians
2007-08-03 20:54:05 What can you say, if you want a crepe, this is the place. (+) Very good breakfast (+) Desert crepes! (+) Potato skillets (-) Sometimes it's hard to find a place to sit —atwong
2007-08-28 23:08:04 I love the California Crepe, and with the potatoes it really fills you up. The coffee is a bit expensive... also, word to the wise, if you are waiting for someone and you haven't ordered yet, DONT use their wifi, i was waiting for my friend the other day and was sitting outside with a glass of water and my laptop and this waitress came by with a VERY PISSED OFF EXPRESSION. lol when I did order she...kind of tossed my plate at me. I understand why she might have been a bit upset, but...just dont do it lol. —ArianeMetz
2007-09-05 16:48:43 I love Crepeville because they have free wireless and bottomless iced teas. Their food is not bad, but perhaps a bit pricey.
My main gripe is that they turned their audio system on, playing the same song list over and over again. That's a little irritating (I feel sorry for the employees being subjected to it all day long). I think that it would be better if they had no music; usually better because you're probably going to irritate someone who doesn't like music you do. My 2 cents worth, anyway.
Otherwise, it's nice to have a place to go that has a lot of flexible seating—that's why LUGOD uses it. :-) —DougBarbieri
2007-09-18 23:00:10 Their food is so awesome..... I just love it so much.... Crepeville is one of my favorite restaurants in Davis. But, the waitress who work over there is not really friendly, almost never smile at all. Sexiest? I don't think it is "neccessary"—just give us smile so costumers will be very happy. FOOD=A+, SERVICE=C-. Thanks. —SoMeOnE
2007-10-12 10:33:52 Crepeville: They only do 3 things extremely well Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. I read the comments on racist - Yes, they serve all races there and in very polite fashion, and are predjudiced toward people with cash (USD). Some of the other comments regarding 'sexist' - well I think the term is more like 'sexy' - starting with the owners, and in their own way - even the cooks - and for sure everyone else that works there too. Crepeville is my #1 recommendation for my friends and visitors coming into the Sac / Davis area.

2007-10-25 20:20:37 This restaurant is awesome....... Arriba Crepeville!!! —Patricia
2007-10-30 15:25:14 Great food, fast service, free wireless... What else can you ask for? (Maybe self-serve refills!) —JustinBaker
2007-11-08 22:48:09 this place is probabley the only place that ive gone to more than twice in davis..and enjoyed myself every single time...anything you order from their menu is really delicious...and the manager is so nice he serves the dishes and worries constantly about the people in line and at the tables..nice guy! their crepes, sandwiches, dessert crepes...tea..drinks..etc. ALL ARE AWESOME...highly recoommmed this place everyone loves it...you cant go wrong with the crepes..and the lovely potatoes they serve with it!!! this place really rocks! :) —MAIRA
2007-11-14 00:29:04 I go to Crepeville every week and had never gotten kicked out until last week. NO more than two minutes after finishing my french toast an employee who was an older blonde woman came over and "politely" asked me to leave, because they were busy and needed the table; too bad there was no line when I left and plenty of tables were open. Plus the people at the table next to me had been there since before I had come in and I was only there for a half hour. Before this happened I really enjoyed going to Crepeville, but after this I don't think I'll ever go back. —mlily
2007-11-19 18:59:13 Wow, I have been coming to crepeville for a year now and cant complain about the food, however the service sucks, but there is a new guy, working there, about 21, he is great, really friendly, cleaned my table, got me a re-fill, and had a genuine smile not fake...i hope he is there next time i go..... —doggydd
2007-11-28 12:54:01 I REALLY just loveee Crepeville. You know how Joey from Friends eats that gross cake Rachel makes with beef, peas, whipped-cream, and I don't know what, but he keeps saying "Beef GOOOOD. Peas GOOOD. Whipped cream GOOOOD". Well Crepeville doesn't make any gross stuff, but anything I eat there makes me want to say GOOOOOOD. This place rocks my socks off!!! All hail Crepeville! I'd highly recommend an Apple Cider on a cold day and any other dish at Crepeville, they are really all delicious. Mmmm :) —PShah
2007-12-28 09:23:49 i like the chocolate strawberry dessert crepe, the side of fruit, and the free newspapers by the front door. —JessicaRockwell
2008-01-11 09:44:58 I THINK WE SHOULD ALL BOYCOT THIS PLACE, I AM A PREVIOUS EMPLOYEE AND I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT GOES DOEN THERE, THE OWNER IS REALLY RACIST, AND A TOTAL BASTARD, NOTICE WHY THERE ARE SO MANY NEW FACES, EVERYONE QUIT. TRUST ME IF YOU KNEW HOW THE GIRLS BEHIND THE COUNTER OR THE MANAGER ANGELA SPOKE OF THE CUSTOMERS BEHIND THEIR BACK YOU WOULD NOT GO ANYMORE. PLEASE STARTING FEB.. PASS IT ON, NO MORE CREPEVILLE OR BURGERS AND BREW, SAME OWNERS!!!!!!!!!! —doggydd (This review is the only edit this user account has made on the wiki. While it does not invalidate this review, please keep this in mind)
—This isn't the only post they have made. On 11-19-2007 Doggydd made a comment saying how much the service sucked but how they couldn't complain about the food and had been going there for over a year. This implies "doggydd" did not work there in November, but somehow worked in between that post and this one. Either a disgruntled new employee that didn't work out or something else?
2008-01-16 06:39:58 Yesterday for the first time I had a the wonderful experience of enjoying a great crepe in Davis...at La Crêpe, a small independently owned crepe franchise in the UC Davis Silo! I had the Ham, Mushroom and Cheese Crepe with mornay sauce...C'est Magnifique! Try it, you'll like it better; the employees seem to cultivate, unlike those of Crepeville, a certain elan. —WilyFerret
2008-01-20 00:37:17 I really like the food here, but my order is often incorrect. —Dr.Lindsay
Dear Doctor, Word, with care choose your menu item correctly and you'll like the food even better. —WilyFerret
2008-01-20 22:27:49 Funny guy. I was referring to the fact that my order is often not made correctly. —Dr.Lindsay
2008-01-20 22:35:49 Quick draw, Doctor. Good job. Check out La Crêpe sometime. The crêpe chefs behind the counter there will engage you in witty repartee, if you like, all the while whipping you up a tasty crêpe and never (guaranteed) make you an incorrect order. You can watch every move they make by sleight of hand, behind the glass, while they chat with you.—WilyFerret
2008-01-20 22:51:34 Where is that place? I would love to check it out! —Dr.Lindsay
2008-01-21 11:41:45 Things are looking up, Doc; the general info is in my post right above your "incorrect order" Creepville comment. Specifically, the UC Davis Silo Union is on Hutchison Drive a little bit west of Shields Library. —WilyFerret
2008-01-22 23:29:32 Ate at Crepeville tonight. I ordered the California crepe, but with pesto (instead of the tomato pesto). It was delicious. The house potatoes were awesome. I do believe that I had the perfect potato tonight. They were busy, but the service was still good. I ate with my dinner-buddy and left so I can't say anything about the studying situation. However, I did notice quite a few studiers even though the place was pretty busy. So I guess it just depends on who is working. —CurlyGirl26
2008-01-25 07:27:08 I eat here probably 2-3 times a week, but I just found out you can no longer substitute anything for the potatoes served with most meals. I can't believe it! It seems like every place serving breakfast nowadays allows you to sub fruit, cottage cheese, etc. for potatoes. It's a big part of staying healthy. Though I love this place, I will definitely be coming here less often. —jsg718
2008-01-26 21:16:16 I went to Crepeville on a Saturday night around dinner time. I thought I would be asked to leave, but instead I was only asked to move to a bar seat since there was a huge party of people (20+) coming in. The owner (I think?) apologized to me when he asked me to move, which was really nice, and offer me a coffee refill. Although the place was loud, but I enjoyed my time, and will come back in the future. —SophieYang
2008-02-13 00:41:17 i had the vegetarian tofu wrap at crepeville. it didnt quite have that peanut flavor that i had hoped, but it was pretty good nonetheless. i was surprised how much it even filled me up! i was starving before i jumped into this plate thinking that it wasnt enough to fill me up. oh and the house potatoes are DELICIIIIIIIIOUS!!!!!! i think im just going to go back for those damned potatoes. darn carbs. -_- —echelon
2008-02-17 19:00:25 I liked the atmosphere and the place looks nice. Their potatoes are awesome! —feichu-huya
2008-02-18 22:45:39 I was in San Francisco the other day and found this cafe and crepery called the Squat and Gobble. I don't know if it is owned by the same people or one is a knock off of the other but they are the SAME restaurant. The menus are even written in the same artistic colored chalk. You can see their website here

I believe the owners operate several restaurants in Northern California, and that may very well be one of them. There is also another one in Sacramento. —JeremyOgul
2008-02-19 01:28:53 Oh man. I had mad cravings for crepe and Ive seen this place more than once. So I decided to come here for lunch and give it a go. I ordered the strawberry nutella crepe and that REALLY hit the spot. It was warm and crispy and the nutella and strawberry was so DELICIOUS! I came back here a second time and ordered a chicken pesto crepe. Their potatoes are to die for. Never once have we experienced any bad services. Maybe because both times I came here it was never ever busy. In fact they were nice. One advice though. Stay away from the blintzes. I didn't know what it was and decided to give it a try. It was okay, but It wasnt what I thought it was and was a little disappointed even for what it was. —chand3123k
2008-02-19 13:59:25 I think this place is under new ownership because the service has gotten much better, and I have noticed a new manager and staff there. —DavisMan56
2008-02-19 20:27:48 The Hawaiian crepe sounded odd to me at first, but it's the best crepe I've had here so far (and I've had a fair few... haha).
The fuji salad is also really good. My tuna melt was too, but what's with drowning the sandwiches in mustard? —KateAusten
2008-02-19 22:31:13 A yummy California crepe, a wide selection of hot loose teas (and good iced tea), and free internet... what more could you ask for on a lazy afternoon? However, I do second chand3123k comment that the blintzes are a miss, and as someone else mentioned it seems that they've started being a pain about substitutions (including charging extra for comparable swaps).. Really, is it that much to ask that I would prefer regular pesto instead of sun-dried tomato pesto on my California crepe? (I agree with CurlyGirl26 that this is a great combination!) —mj
2008-02-20 01:41:39 Right on, mj! I didn't even notice that they are charging for comparable substitutions. What a bummer! I ate there again last week and ordered the seafood pasta. I couldn't get past a few bites. It was just terrible. I think it's me though because I didn't pay attention when ordering and ended up with some tomato/clam sauce that just made me feel like hurling. Oh, did I mention that I don't like tomatoes? Next time I'm trying one of the other pastas (with an alfredo sauce). One thing I never tire of is their Greek salad. It's huge and delicious. I'm trying Burgers & Brew for the first time tomorrow night. Wish me luck. —CurlyGirl26
2008-02-22 13:18:58 Simply THE best French Toast that I've tasted in a restaurant. Period. —AnnieSirrah
2008-03-18 00:40:44 The half sandwich & soup/salad combo is a great value. Quantity and quality on a $6.95 (+tax) plate. I recommend the Fuji salad. —StephenUy
2008-03-20 15:56:23 crepeville is delicious. my roommate and i have taken our friends from socal here and they loved it! we also recommended to other friends and they really enjoyed this place. its awesome that they have a large selection both sweet and salty crepes. on top of that, they have burgers, salads and pasta. i always make my own crepe. but the chicken pesto is really yummy as well. not only are the crepes delicious, but they give you a side of potatoes! it is always busy and packed with people, you will always see people studying in there or just relaxing —jentruong
2008-03-20 21:59:14 Took the recomendation and tried the French Toast...Fantastic. Thought the pricces were resonable and the staff seemed quite helpful. I will be back. —davisdan
2008-03-26 22:40:52 Ate at Crepeville this afternoon. Ordered my usual Greek salad. It was huge and delicious as per usual. It busy when I went, but they were attentive and helpful throughout my entire stay. Keep up the good work, Crepeville Staff! —CurlyGirl26
2008-05-04 14:02:48 I went there for breakfast and witnessed a true episode of assholery on the part of the owner. He yelled at one of the waitresses in front of a good dozen customers waiting to place their orders and made her run off crying. When I told him I thought that was unnecessary he started to justify himself by saying that she made the coffee wrong and he had been teaching "these kids" this for 3 years. (Incidentally, the coffee tasted just fine.) I told him that I didn't really care what was going on, but I didn't want to see that kind of drama when I'm out for breakfast and it's really quite rude to treat people that way. Besides, you'd expect that sort of treatment if she had done something major, like insulted a customer, and taking her aside in private would be every bit as effective. He then asked us what we were here for and became very rude towards us, though the waitress who delivered our food to us was very nice. In general I've found their waitresses to be nice, helpful, and quite competent. —DanaMace
2008-05-13 23:46:12 The food here is good and good portions. I've tried many of the crepes and they are all pretty good, though in the California, the onions are not cooked enough, so now I just ask for mushrooms instead. I like their idea of crepes, but really, I wish they were more Parisian. The best crepe here is not exactly on the menu. I order the strawberry crepe, but instead of the strawberries that come with it I ask for warmed ones that come on the other crepe with the nutella. These strawberries are warmed in a pan with brown sugar and lemon juice. They serve it with whipped cream. The tartness mixed with the sweetness makes my mouth water just writing about it. —JamieParker
2008-05-24 15:25:42 not accepting credit cards is really lame. i think even most fast food establishments accept credit cards. —kelvinkay
2008-05-24 19:31:37 I like crepeville because their food is usally good and pretty healthy. I like the caprese salad. But my boyfriend won't go there because he says their cups smell weird. —littlelemur
2008-05-29 09:04:04 They clearly need a suggestion box. In which I would put: your wine is served much too hot. I think its being kept too close to the coffee maker. Thank you. —LaurenMcNees
2008-05-29 14:23:41 Ate at Crepeville twice this week. As usual, the food was both brought out to our table promptly and it was tasty. Ordered the Greek Salad and the Athens scramble. Both were great.
Re: Credit cards. A while back, I had a conversation with the owner about his cash only policy. He told me the reason he maintains it is because of cost. According to him, he can keep his prices lower not allowing credit cards. He said something to the affect of, "Why should everyone be punished because a few people are too lazy to bring cash?" —CurlyGirl26
2008-05-31 17:52:07 I've only ever been here twice before and that was over five years ago, so I decided to give it a try at some point again. Today, I was nearby and saw that it wasn't busy, so I figured I'd might as well go. I ordered the Greek crepe and took my seat. After an 15+ minute wait, I got my food (I'm not sure if thats slow for them or not, but I was reading a book, so I didn't mind). The crepe was pretty good, but I was quite turned off by the presentation. The crepe looked great and tasted as such, but was served aside a bed of burnt potatoes. I expected them browned, and I do prefer my potatoes on the crispier side, but these were completely charred. I had to pick through to find the ones that weren't blackened but still managed to accidentally eat several that were burnt on the bottom. Sort of clashed with the yummy crepe. The idea of being tickled and punched at the same time comes to mind. And to add to the disappointment of the potatoes (I really love potatoes, so even though they were a side, I was looking forward to some nice browned potatoes), one of the wait staff (busboy?) came by 3 times within 15 or so minutes asking if I was finished or not. The first time was understandable because I had put down my fork to turn the page to my book, but the second time, I was actually lifting food to my mouth. The third time he came by, I let him take it (at that point, it was just the burnt potatoes that I was still picking through). Annoying, possibly, but its forgiven. I hear too much good about this place to just write it off so quickly.
I definitely will come back. I figure my visit was just a fluke that most businesses/restaurants have every now and then. —SunjeetBaadkar
2008-06-06 22:46:06 This place is so overrated. Everyone loves it because the food is pretty good. I agree, it's good - but not great. It's not cheap, and let's be honest, it's hard to mess up crepes. I find it ridiculous that they only accept cash. The service is nothing great. It's not a horrible restaurant, I just don't see what all the hype is about. You can get more food that's just as tasty elsewhere at a cheaper cost. —RoseRed
2008-06-07 16:40:40 This is the best breakfast place Davis has!! I've been here a million times and they messed up my order once and fixed it instantly. The service and food here are great. I wish we had more breakfast options like this here in town. The rest of you negative people can go to Dennys in Vacaville with the other trash. —Kicker

2008-07-11 22:48:54 I reviewed the downtown Crepeville restaurant on solanodining.blogspot.com in the "Davis" section. We really had a good time there! Amazing that no matter how crowded the restaurant is, it isn't long before you get your order placed and are enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. —pbrite
2008-07-20 01:16:20 I love their house potatoes and I always order the half sandwich. Their fuji salad is the best. —cnk.midori
2008-07-27 18:59:40 I had no problems with the food (Chicken Curry was great), however the gal taking my order had horrible customer service skills (and was practically brain dead) it took a million times of repeating myself just to order my food, she kept talking, and interrupting me, with a customer behind me about just walking out and leaving early to go party (seriously on a tuesday night? do you really need to do that and or discuss that while having such difficulty taking an order??) he kept asking her to help him move in the meanwhile i just wanted her to take my damn order is that too much to ask for at a fucking restaurant so i said very slowly as if she were seriously challenged C-h-i-c-k-e-n C-u-r-r-y!!!!!!. I think her job description is clear take orders and ring people up etc... not ignore everyone except regular customer/friends. This was my first time at the Davis location and certainly won't go back when the brain dead gals are there in the evenings. —csmith
I actually have to say that I had gotten better help from the staff that don't really speak that much english than the distracted white gal taking the order... thats just sad and lame she needs to get a clue. But I would still recommend going just avoid the ditsy large breasted morons (no offense really just take the orders and do your jobs).
Why do you have to mention her breast size (or her race for that matter)? Not sure that her intelligence is connected to her body shape.
This is a very misogynistic thing to say.
2008-07-27 20:04:43 The food here is very good. It's a good place to study. I love the WiFi. Lots of customizability in what you can order. Good prices too. Sometimes very crowded and hard to find a table. Usually crowded, but not too crowded to find seating. Often gets my order wrong - either leaves out something I ordered, or gives me something almost, but not entirely unlike, what I ordered. (Examples include items that are phonetically similar to the one that I ordered, or items that are cooked in a different way than I asked for, even if they are made from the same base ingredients.) Fortunately, they will usually correct the mistake. Unfortunately, they make a mistake almost 100% of the time. The problem seems to be in communication between the people who take the orders and the people who cook them (possibly due to linguistic issues). For example, recently, I repeated my order 4 times to one person, who did not seem to understand what I was asking for. Another person stepped in and took my order correctly (and correctly read my order back to me). But the item that was delivered was still not what I had asked for! It's a bit like asking for a blue car with an automatic transmission and getting a green car with a stick shift. Yes, it's still a car, but...
Management is aware of the problem, and when present, does their best to ensure that what I order is actually what is brought to my table. Unfortunately, despite the extra efforts at quality control, this place still holds the record by far for giving me something other than what I ordered.
Despite the quality control issue, I would still definitely recommend this place. —IDoNotExist
2008-08-14 21:47:04 Two weeks after my last comment...
The food is still good, although quality control continues to suffer. 100% of what I've ordered in the past few weeks has been missing an item that I ordered. The result is that I have it sent back to have the correct item added or cooked in, which adds up to 5 minutes to some items. Some examples: One type of crepe that I order has three items. Today, it came with two of the three items, and I had to send it back to get the third item included. About 5 minutes later, it came back with the item correctly included, although there was so much of this item in the crepe that it really spoiled the taste. (The item is supposed to be cooked into the crepe, but in this case, was not because it was added in afterwards.) In another item I ordered recently, I asked for two modifications to the standard item. One modification was made correctly (and actually, has been all but one time that I've ordered the item.) The other was not - and usually isn't.
I love this place, but I'm really getting frustrated with the ordering situation. I'm pretty sure that most of the problems are occurring in the kitchen, because the staff checks my order against the ticket they submitted to the kitchen, and the vast majority of the time, the ticket is correct but the food that they brought me is not. If you order something here, be sure to check that what you ordered is indeed what they brought you - especially if you order a "build your own" item of some kind. —IDoNotExist
2008-08-14 21:51:51 For comparison, the MU makes burritos at a rate of about 2 or 3 per minute during busy times. I've gotten dozens of burritos there, and only had a mistake on an order once or twice. The sandwich area custom makes sandwiches, but again has made only one mistake out of many dozens of items. Most of the restaurants I've commented on on the wiki have made few or no mistakes with my order. —IDoNotExist
2008-09-28 21:50:26 Food is awesome, but their method of ordering and serving takes forever. The cash only thing is annoying too. Great breakfast place. —ASQWIK

2008-10-02 14:30:31 Woooww. In the past, I've always enjoyed Crepeville's moderately priced, enormous meals, but as of last Saturday (the 27th), I AM NEVER GOING BACK. Like others have said, I find it slightly disturbing that the servers seem to only be attractive young women. Now I know why they choose to run their business that way.
Standing in line to order food, I witnessed a man (I assume, the manager) screaming loudly at a young woman working the register. It appeared to be regarding a scheduling conflict, yet he honestly yelled things along the lines of "you're fired, get the fuck out of here" and "have a great loser fucking life". I was not the only customer who saw this incident happen. The man was legitimately screaming at her!
I hope that this matter was later handled in a manner more civilized than what I saw, but from what I've heard about Crepeville's management, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. The way that this waitress was handled was extremely disturbing and from now on, I'll be taking my business somewhere where I know my money is going to good people.
2008-10-02 18:31:04 I previously worked at the Davis Crepeville and I must say that the owners and the management are horrible. The owner constantly try to flirt with the servers and yell horrible things at them. On one occasion he even called everyone working dumb (in crueler words). The employees are treated terribly and are consistently made to feel stupid. And yes, they are sexist and do tend to hire mostly, although no longer exclusively, attractive college women. I would not recommend eating here if you like to put your money toward decent people. —aotearoa36
2008-10-03 01:18:47 Just a note that MrTough and aotearoa36 in the two comments above not only have the same writing style and phrasing, but also posted from exactly the same IP address. It is likely that these two are the same person (based upon writing style and IP address), and unlikely that they are different people (based on writing style.) —IDoNotExist
2008-10-03 01:22:18 Also, I've eaten at Crepeville *many* times, and I have never seen the management behave in the way the previous poster described. While this doesn't mean that it didn't happen, the behavior reported is not consistent with what I've observed at the restaurant. —IDoNotExist
2008-10-03 08:28:24 The inability to pay with a credit card is annoying. I know this has been their policy since day one, and it doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon, but I find it inconvenient, especially in this day-in-age. I realize to accept cards costs money, but to me, that's part of owning a business. —AmLin

Day and age. Not day-in-age. —CovertProfessor

Do excuse me, fortunately I work in the sciences and not the English Department. —AmLin
2008-10-03 08:33:04 Oh, and with my gripe below, I will also give a positive...the burger at Crepeville is delicious. In my opinion, one of the best in town. —AmLin
2008-10-06 09:12:13 We are absolutely not the same people. And maybe you have not experienced this type of behavior from the management because you are a customer there, not an employee. I am also questioning why you seem to care enough about this restaurant to look so closely at our writing styles and IP addresses. But I can assure you that both of these comments are 100% true, as I was there for all of it. —aotearoa36

I think it's probably more caring about DavisWiki and the quality of information provided. —ElleWeber
2008-10-06 09:22:47 Multiple comments from new accounts, or accounts that are not well established, with similar writing styles are often an indication that someone is attempting to pretend to post as multiple people on the wiki. Posting from the same IP address is another good indicator, because it means that the same machine was most likely used for both postings. Postings like this are often flagged on the wiki because the likelihood that the same person is posting twice, and therefore attempting to sway readers of the comments towards their particular point of view by making it appear that many people support that particular point of view, is very high.
I have no particular feelings for or against this restaurant beyond the quality of their food and their service. (In fact, if you look at my postings about Crepeville, you will see that I've got several issues with the restaurant, although I like the food.) I'm not associated with the restaurant in any way, other than as a customer. —IDoNotExist
2008-10-08 23:25:11 Good crepes & a nice breakfast/brunch house atmosphere. Make sure you have cash though, because they don't take DEBIT or Credit cards, which is very annoying. They do have an ATM though. I had better dessert crepes in Tokyo, but these are definitely good. —fountain-hopper
2008-10-13 19:20:40 I've always thought the food at Crepeville was just o.k. Good enough to go there occasionally. But I have to say, I had breakfast at Crepeville last week and I was really put off by the outfits worn by the female servers. A couple of them were basically wearing "daisy dukes" shorts! Don't get me wrong, you can wear your shorts as short as you want on your own time, but not when you're preparing and serving breakfast for paying customers. Really really inappropriate. Doesn't the management have any kind of standards, or care that this is the image of their restaurant? —EGrace
2008-10-13 23:15:57 What would you like them to wear? Did it affect the quality of your food? If not, why is it so important to you what shorts they are wearing? —IDoNotExist
2008-10-28 17:05:19 I'm amused by the comments about the waitresses. As far as I'm concerned, they could be wearing bikinis while serving me my food and I wouldn't care. I haven't had a bad service in the 5 times that I've gone, but I wouldn't doubt some of these reviewers' experiences as every restaurant has shortcomings.
Now, onto the food part. Crepes are pretty tasty, but not worth the price. The food cost to create a crepe dish probably does not exceed 2 dollars, yet the average price for the crepe dishes is like 8 dollars. Despite the prices, Crepeville is a restaurant worth visiting once in a while. —BenLee
2008-10-28 17:22:55 Isn't it the case that the cost of the food is quite a bit lower than the sale price of the food at nearly every restaurant? That's how they make money! Also, they have electricity, maintenance, labor, insurance, and other costs. So I doubt that their profits are quite as high as the cost of the ingredients might suggest. But this definitely seems like a highly profitable place! —IDoNotExist
2008-10-28 18:09:09 the brown sugar with lemon crepe is the best ever! the only bad thing is it's either a hit or miss. somedays it taste great and other days it's horrible. the sugar would still be in large clumps and unmelted. the soups here aren't that great either. they always remind me of that mushy congee stuff served on china airlines even though what i ordered was chicken jambalaya and chicken and rice soup. —skinnyfatgirl
2008-11-25 14:50:40 I have tried the Denver crepe and found that it had waaaay too much ham. The potatoes were not nearly as good as they looked, either. I would try it again though, mainly for the breakfasts. —Kiran
